Homely Creatures
I have said to the Worm, Thou art my mother and my sister.
Job,17:14, King James Version
William Blake’s For the Children (1793) and Paul Klee’s Two Gentlemen Bowing to One Another, Each Supposing the Other to Be in a Higher Position (1903) show us just how small a soul can feel.
What does a rodent, pigeon or worm represent to the human psyche? While the peacock (ego) struts his wares, lowly beasts scurry through our psychic shadows. By depicting these grovelers, I hope to exhume buried monsters and expose them to the light of day.
