Do Ostriches Really Bury their Heads in the Sand?
“… This series was inspired by a safari in Africa where Rosenheim witnessed a pride of lions kill a Cape buffalo. Rosenheim’s creatures remind us that we are not so far removed from these base instincts.” – Erin Toale, exhibition essay, The Art of Being Dangerous, 2018
Exquisite yet sinister abnormalities afflict beasts and fowl. By depicting natural and manmade aberrations that push wildlife towards extinction, I hope to reveal wildlife’s uncanny ability to adapt to trauma. This site-inspired installation was created for the Dickson Window Art Project Space of Waubonsee College. Viewed through 3 glass walls, I designed the space to resemble a Natural History diorama. Coordinated by Cecilia Vargas.
